GUEST SPEAKER FROM LaSALLE COLLEGE on ART CAREER opportunities

9/19/2017

Stewart Winrob is the new High School Ambassador in the Halifax region for LaSalle College, Vancouver- formerly the Art Institute of Vancouver where he worked for over 10 years, most recently as the Director of Admissions. He's now relocated to this beautiful city.

What is LaSalle College Vancouver? - they are private post-secondary Art and Design College offering Diploma and Bachelor's programs that allow students to develop the skills for creative careers. They have 22 campuses on 5 continents and, through their Career Services team, offer their students assistance in finding positions in these fields.

As educators, we've learned that the student who wants be a nurse or an auto-mechanic is relatively easy to help. Not so easy to define and harness the creative ones. What do we do with the students who spend a great deal of their time drawing, painting, creating their own computer games or animations, cooking the family dinner, designing their own clothes, writing and producing songs – where do they go? What Stewart aims to do is give these students a window into these creative industries and real ways to make a living doing what they love.

Stewart will be offering a highly-visual 45 minute career exploration presentation in Design, Media Arts, Culinary and Fashion and more. The focus of this presentation is not on LaSalle College ( He recognizes that our school may not be right for every student) but on the skill development, personal attributes, industry information and career opportunities, in support of their curriculum, that are critical to finding employment in these highly competitive fields. He will, however, talk about the process of researching and applying to schools, understanding admissions requirements and investigating scholarship and financial aid opportunities.

THIS OPPORTUNITY is happening in Room B327 (Ms. Perry's classroom) on Wednesday, September 27th from 11:24- 12:24, during her grade 12 class time.
 (
Any questions for Mr. Winrob could run into the lunch period, if need be...)
